Interesting stuff

I am pretty curious, but also a bit cautious about new stuff that I don't really know what it is. Mum says she never came across a more curious dog than me, but if you don't go poking around investigating things, you never get to know much, do you?

Whenever we go visiting people, I always walk in and out of all rooms I can get in to and check out what's in there. You can find loads of fun stuff under beds for example, or if you manage to get in under or behind other pieces of furniture. If and when I find something extra interesting, I bring it with me to show the humans, and sometimes they seem very happy about my findings. I've found all sorts of things in peoples homes, like kids toys, socks, pens and other fun things I can carry. Once I found a pair of underwear, but when I brought it in to the living room to show what I'd found, the people we were visiting didn't seem too impressed or happy about me showing them. Isn't that strange?!

It's also fun to walk around and look at all the stuff humans have, and I find it extra interesting and fun when we visit houses where they have these low windows! That is really good, because then I can put my front paws up on that little shelf and look out the window, and also see what they keep on the shelves. Very often I recognise if they have put something new there, that wasn't there the last time, and then I investigate that thing a bit closer. I also like bookshelves, because they are often filled with plenty of interesting things, and I often wonder what people use all those things for. Mum has loads of books, and they are just standing there and I've been sniffing them so many times trying to figure out what they are there for and why there are so many of them. I've never seen her use them for anything! The videotapes are something she uses more often, and they are on a shelf under the TV. Sometimes I go over and push them a little bit so they won't fall down on the floor. Oh, and guess what, I know exactly what to do when you want to watch a video! I always sit down next to mum when she puts a video in the VCR, and I know exactly which button she presses to start the film, provided mum doesn't use that little thing called a remote control. If it didn't seem so complicated to get the films out of the little boxes they're in I'm sure I could help mum out when she wanted to watch something as long as she told me which one she wanted! I mean how hard can it be to take the film in the mouth, put it through that little hole on the front of the VCR, and then use the nose to press the little button which makes the film show up on the TV??

In the bathroom there are also plenty of interesting stuff to investigate. Mum has some buckets standing in there with some strange bottles inside. Inside the bottles there is something called cleaning stuff, and mum has told me you are not supposed to eat or drink that. You're not even supposed to lick the bottles, and I don't because I'm a good boy. All I do is sniff on them and push them around a little. Most of the time there is a fun little sponge in one of the buckets, but I'm not supposed to play with it. I've done it a few times even though I was told not to, and it's really a fun thing to play with! You can actually rip little pieces out of it, and you can use those little pieces to decorate the floor in the hall. Actually you can decorate any floor with those little sponge pieces!
I thought I looked really good with loads of little blue sponge pieces in my coat, not to talk about how good the floor looked covered with them! For some reason, mum didn't agree with me. She told me that sponge wasn't a toy, and it should stay in the bucket and I wasn't allowed to chew on it. If I wanted something to chew on, I should take one of my chewing bones, or one of my toys. Mum is such a bore sometimes!!

I also find it hard to resist cupboard doors, well any kind of doors that is slightly open. As soon as I see a door that isn't properly closed, I have to walk over and see why it's open. Most of the time I know what's in there already, at least here at home, but it's nice to see if there are any new things added. Unfortunately I can only see and investigate whatever is on the lowest shelf, and that is a bit of a downer. Especially the larder seems to keep very interesting things on the shelves I can't reach! On the one I can reach, there is only my bowls, the big bag containing my food, and some other uninteresting things. But even though I know that is all I'm going to find I have to stick my nose in there if I see the door is a bit open. I even check out the cupboard where the vacuum cleaner lives! Not because I'm very fond of that thing, but because someone has to keep an eye on all the stuff!
